In February 2024, a regulation on fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) was published in the Official Journal of the EU, radically changing the rules for placing refrigeration and heating appliances on the EU market. What is worth paying attention to now when choosing a heat pump?
The aim of the new rules is to almost completely eliminate F-gas emissions by 2050, that is substances whose climate-damaging potential is even several thousand times greater than that of CO₂. The regulation has introduced significant changes for manufacturers, service technicians and heat pump users, including:
- a ban on placing on the market new appliances containing specified F-gases, including popular HFC refrigerants (hydrofluorocarbons),
- tightening of the quota system, which limits the amount of refrigerants available on the market and affects their price,
- new certification requirements for installers, including a duty of regular training every 7 years and an expansion of the exam scope to cover alternatives to F-gases.
As a result, many installers and investors today face the dilemma of which heat pump to choose so as not to risk problems with installation, service and – in the future – the legality of the appliance. Termet has a good solution.
